I must say that Paul is an interesting guy. I find his ref to be a
fascinating attempt at cyber-art. I hope he is not offended by this, as
his intentions may be more than that. But in my opinion, his use of the
medium is extremely creative. It appears that not all of the antics
there are automated, so don't be surprised if you do get a response for
the Interlocutor (heh, heh). In the vein of traditional German dark
expressionism!

I will try to stop by. I hope you are not put off by some of the
rudeness that we see on the listserv. Some people are short on places to
vent their day-to-day frustrations and take it out on invisible people.
I also would suggest that if you are going to broadcast changing
pictures, that you should slow down the rate of change so they each draw
completely and are able to be viewed properly. I would be interested in
hearing about the origins of your artwork.

Hi,

I am Melentie Pandilovski,  from the Center for Computer Arts in Skopje,
Macedonia. I am trying to communicate through the CuSeeMe reflector,
but can reach no Images nor can I see anyone in the windows.

Has the whole thing been postponed ?
Will it happen later or is there no interest?
Please reply immediately.

Dear Paul,

Congratulations !
Sure, we will be back in HEAVEN from time to time...

Did you get our message concerning our NewAgora Project
we presented on the EMAF last week.

We are still looking forward to receive a few words from you
in our guestbookS or via e-mail...

...and, if HEAVEN lets you... to talk about a future cooperative
project between you and Kassel.

Hope to hear from you,
best wishes,

Dear Paul,

we are all quite busy at the moment, at the time before documenta starts
Kassel is HELL ;-)

our school exhibition "RUNDGANG" will start in about 3 weeks
and Oliver and me are planning two more exhibitions during dX...

but it is ok if we do not lose contact...?!

The New Agora- URL is:
http://www.uni-kassel.de/newagora

We are just working on building up our own server for
having more space for experiments and our individual needs.
At the moment we depend on other people doing the administration
and we can only put our web sites on the server...

BOOMERANG (thats his name !) will be online (so we hope)
when documenta X starts. Well let you know !

We hope to meet you at dX or RUNDGANG and maybe we will find time
to talk about cooperation projects !
(with NEW AGORA most of the COOPERATION went wrong!)

Many Greetings from Kassel

yours
Oliver and Maik

Excuse me Steven, I dont wish be offensive or receive offense. But on the
subject of advertising - I think you have missed understood my message, I
am simply informing this CU-SEEME mailing list of a new CU-SEEME reflector
- Im sorry if you confused my mailing with an advertisement for AT&T or
Shell plc. But just to put you in the picture, Im talking about a public
access, non-profit making CU-SEEME reflector. Initially I didn't see it
necessary to reply to your e-mail via this reader list, but seeing as you
forwarded it here yourself, you have forced me to do so.

I personally appreciate postings concerning new reflectors, experimental
reflectors, etc.  It is especially regarded as ok if it is of a non
commercial nature and contributes to the public good and
progresses the scientific evolution of low bandwidth video.

I see it as advertisement. Plain and simple.
There are plenty of places on the web to
"advertise" your reflector site. This place is
for technical questions and answers regarding
the cuseeme and reflector programs and
anything related. Period.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I appreciate knowing about new reflector
sites!  And while I am VERY new to this list, I can say that I have only
seen technical questions...not technical answers!  :)

I have seen many people notifying us of reflector sites here so what is
your problem.  It is nit picking like yours that gets everyones back
up.. Back off and enjoy the group.

Some of us newbies appreciate news of new reflectors.  Perhaps when we
achieve marc's greatness, we too will know all these other places to look.
In the meantime marc, instead of just referring to these places, with which
I and perhaps others are completely unfamiliar, would you please list a few
of them.

Oh, I forgot, that would be advertising.  It might even be helpful.  You'd
better forget it.

I welcome any news of new reflectors. The few there are are nearly always
chock-a-block and sometimes refuse you access.
Please continue notifying this newsgroup of new reflectors and forget that
guy's complaint.

Hello there...

I visited HEAVEN a while ago and talked to you at the
time about my current project here at Newport...

I've sorted some web-pages at

http://ion.newport.ac.uk/convergence/

and wondered what you thought... a link to
HEAVEN and mention that I hope to use your
reflector for the performance is included...

The current project seems to be tied to the phases
of the moon, and I am on the verge of placing a call
for contributors of sound/image/text which will form
part of the performance, set for Thursday May 22nd
and Thursday June 5th...

I just wondered what you thought of the pages, how things
are going, and whether you think the project sounds incredibly
unfocussed... I think I have to weave some imaginary narrative
based around the moon in order tie it all together...

Hope all is well, have fun...

Dear Douglas,

Heaven is always up and future events are planned, but for the time being
it is our intention just to publicly populate this reflector. This is
happening - slowly, but its a long process. A lot of people are stopping by
Heaven, but not long enough to meet other people. Opening a new reflector
is a little like opening a new bar - no one wants to go in until its full,
and you need to get your regulars in. I'm sure anyone who is familiar with
starting a new reflector will tell you the same story - any suggestions for
populating a reflector would be very appreciated.

And now a technical question. Has anyone ever come across a software plug
in (or could anyone develop one) that sends chat automatically - almost
like a kind of software robot, that could recognize questions and give
answers automatically ?

Please check out Heaven 194.94.211.200, the drinks are free !

Heaven? Hell, no. Pardon the pun, but the first two letters of pun are p u and
heaven in your vision stinks. Ramp it up.

I wrote an email stating that I had visited HEaven and all I see everytime
is something that resembles an elephants leg. Then someone else wrote and
said I should wait around till others show up. Well, I plan to go back
tonite and/or other times. I hope to see you and/or others there. I
understand that prehaps no one will be there every time I connect but the
odds are someone wil eventually be there...right?

I can't rate something I've never experienced.

Sarcasm. I have logged onto (into?) your site and seen no one else for
minutes at a time. In computer clock cycles, that is an eternity.

What is your site? What does it do? What are those oddly disembodied
desicated images?

Come on people, for crying out loud! Let's all grow up and leave this
guy alone! Who ever sent this message probably has his own vision of
"heaven", but may may find himself alone there when its all over. I for
one wouldn't want to be there. This is a reflector, not an out of body
experience!
Kind regards to you as well, Paul

Hello Paul...

Sounds rather like a 'bot' in the IRC tradition... as to how to
implement one in CU-SeeMe is a different kettle of piranhas...

Doing something on a Web-page would probably be easier, but of
course I guess that isn't what you want!

Hope all is well, and hope you caught some of the FUSION business today...

Talk to you soon...

Let's see what's on there tonight. I actually haven't tried it yet.
Maybe there are people on this planet who actually look like mummified
pig parts. I don't think I am that ugly, although, to tell you the
truth, I don't photograph well. It won't be any better if we don't use
it. I will try at 10:00 cdt. Keep in mind that this reflector is
overseas and may not be the fastest for Stateside users.

Hullo there...

Just thought I'd drop a line saying
I'll try to be around for the opening
tomorrow... not too sure if I can get a
video-camera, but I'll have some kind of feed...

Talk to you whenever.. I'm in the process of
revamping the convergence pages, and including
a proper link to HEAVEN...
