Research projects:
The changing of the aspect of Siena between the Quattrocento and the Settecento. The study examines the image of Siena as an exclusivly medieval city. On the one hand, there is a group of buildings like the cathedral, the Palazzo Pubblico, and some family palaces which preserve their gothic aspect. On the other hand, however, a continous transformation of the façades in general aims to modernize the city, extinguishing medieval traces. The study concerns forms, laws, and motives of this changement.
A contribution to the project The Churches of Siena studies a group of seven architectural drawings of Baldassarre Peruzzi, published by Heinrich Wurm in 1984. The drawings are differently elaborated plans of the Siena Cathedral. They show the attempts of Peruzzi to complete the unfinished Duomo Nuovo substituting the hexagon for a new, huge cupola.
