Email-Interview mit Tiong Ang

dear pia
as you know, I communicate from Indonesian internetcafe's online, not very ideal place to rethink Germany! So here are some short answers:
my bio, you mean how I developed? I think the GaleriefZgK has a yellow catalogue of mine, maybe you can borrow it - Not Dark Yet, 1998. I was a painter, then installations, then collaborative projects (performative and interactive) in which video plays the most important role. Now video is my main medium, along still with paintings and installations. In recent years I have been travelling a lot and the method of video has become semi-documentary and travelogue style. Mostly used in video -installations, in very small fragments.

i have very good memories working in Leipzig - it's really 1 of my favourite projects. working, playing, improvising and discussing with some very nice people, being very much involved with the city's recent past and its changes. I think the project was a very involved yet payfull attempt to open a new perspective on the hopes and disappointments of the Leipziger people. Yes i think we, since it was a group effort, captured the emotions and atmosphere of Leipzig (before) 1989 quite well, really better than the original movie Nikolaikirche.

I'm in Indonesia to work on a collaborative project and exhibition in Cemeti Art House, Yogyakarta. One of my projects is a video with two local actors, from the small but intense experimental theater scene here. It wil be based on the gameof badminton, as a setting of national pride maybe, but really it is about the relationship of man and woman, they are to play mixed double final. The focus is on faces of victory and/of defeat.
bye,
Tiong Ang
