In this seminar, we focus on a certain genre of 'art writing' and the production of experimental texts that do not serve as artists' statements and art theory, but are presented in exhibitions and publications as art. We will read and discuss novels by contemporary artists, such as Andy Warhol's A (1968), books and short stories by the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and the Israeli filmmaker Keren Cytter. Singapore-based artist Heman Chong will present his collectively authored novel Philip (2007) and other recent projects via Webex. In the works of the Berlin-based artist Natalie Häusler, text production and sculptural practice intertwine to form poetic (sound) installations. Benedikt Bock will be presenting his book series 'Texte zum Nachdenken' in the first session on April 5. On April 19, 2022, we will visit the exhibition Poetry in 3D at the Leipzig Museum of Books and Writing in the German National Library. Please send me an email prior to the first session if you're interested in participating.
