Klassenprogramm<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Die Klasse wurde 2004 als Klasse f\u00fcr Medienkunst<\/em> gegr\u00fcndet. In 2007 wurde die Klasse in Klasse f\u00fcr Installation und Raum<\/em> umbenannt. Langj\u00e4hriger Mitarbeiter war Andreas Grahl<\/a> <\/strong>(2006 – 2011). Danach \u00fcbernahm\u00a0Fabian Bechtle<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(2012 – 2017) – \u00a0zun\u00e4chst im Rahmen eines Lehrauftrags\u00a0und dann als k\u00fcnstlerischer Mitarbeiter – eine mehrj\u00e4hrige T\u00e4tigkeit f\u00fcr die Klasse. Vom Wintersemester 2017\/18 bis zum Sommersemester 2019 begleitete die Leipziger K\u00fcnstlerin Klara Meinhardt<\/a><\/strong> im Rahmen eines Lehrauftrags verschiedene Klassenprojekte. Vom Wintersemester 2019\/20 bis zum Sommersemester 2021 war\u00a0Carsten Saeger<\/strong><\/a> Lehrbeauftragter der Klasse.\u00a0Im Wintersemester 2021\/22 \u00fcbernahm diesen Lehrauftrag Anna Raczynska<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/strong>Ebenso unterrichtete\u00a0Elizabeth Gerdeman<\/a><\/strong> im Rahmen eines Lehrauftrags in der Klasse. Von April 2022 bis M\u00e4rz 2025 arbeitete Anna Raczynska<\/a><\/strong> als k\u00fcnstlerische Mitarbeiterin f\u00fcr Installation und Raum in der Klasse und im Studiengang Medienkunst der HGB. Seit dem Wintersemester 2025\/26 unterst\u00fctzt die Leipziger K\u00fcnstlerin und Forscherin Yana Zschiedrich<\/strong><\/a> durch Lehrauftr\u00e4ge die Klassenarbeit.<\/h1>\n

Das Selbstverst\u00e4ndnis der Klasse Installation und Raum begr\u00fcndet sich auf die zunehmende Durchdringung des Digitalen in alle Bereiche des menschlichen Daseins. Expanded Sculpture<\/em> und Post-Internet<\/em> sind Begriffe, die den derzeitigen Referenzrahmen der Klasse mal direkt und mal indirekt beschreiben. Seit den neunziger Jahren f\u00fchrten Diskurse der Neuen Medien<\/em> im Bereich der bildenden Kunst<\/em> zu einer Konvergenz unterschiedlichster Praxen, Medien und Formate. Heute ist es der erweiterte Materialbegriff (Neuer Materialismus),<\/em> der die Basis des breiten Spektrums der zeitgen\u00f6ssischen K\u00fcnste <\/em>bildet.<\/h1>\n

Ausgehend von einem relationalem Kunstverst\u00e4ndnis bildet das Klassenprogramm mit den Begriffen Installation<\/em> und Raum<\/em> einen Diskursrahmen, der die Entdeckung bisher auch unbekannter k\u00fcnstlerischer Formen erm\u00f6glicht. Installation<\/em> versteht sich hier als ein Arrangement von Artefakten und K\u00f6rpern im Raum. Artefakte k\u00f6nnen Objekte, Skulpturen, Bildarbeiten, Videos und vieles mehr sein \u2013 K\u00f6rper k\u00f6nnen als handelnde Subjekte\u00a0 Performer*innen und Betrachter*innen sein. Als Raum<\/em> ist der physische, digitale, soziale, und politische Raum – bestimmte Schnittmengen, aber auch die vollst\u00e4ndige Addition – gemeint.<\/h1>\n

Etwas wird dann als Kunstwerk wahrnehmbar, wenn die Verbindung von Artefakten und Zeichen (Repr\u00e4sentationen) durch eine immaterielle Sph\u00e4re der Reflektion und Handlungen (Relationen) im Raum vervollst\u00e4ndigt werden. Relationen meint hier, dass jedes Kunstwerk als ein Netzwerk unterschiedlichster materieller und immaterieller Faktoren gesehen werden kann, welches in seiner Rezeption auch fluide Formen annehmen kann. Der k\u00fcnstlerische Output kann deshalb genauso viel Formen wie Untersuchungen annehmen. Kunstmachen heute bedeutet sich einen individuellen Umgang mit dem kontinuierlichen Fluss von Rollenwechseln zwischen k\u00fcnstlerischer Praxis einerseits, Wahrnehmung, Betrachtung, Reflektion und Kommunikation andererseits, anzueignen. Erst wenn dies gelungen ist, kann eine k\u00fcnstlerische Position in der \u00d6ffentlichkeit wirksam werden. Voraussetzung daf\u00fcr ist die Erarbeitung von Arbeitsmethoden, das Herausfiltern von Themen, die Definition des k\u00fcnstlerischen Materials sowie die Transformation dieser Faktoren zu einem neuen Ganzen. Die Klasse bietet daf\u00fcr eine gesch\u00fctzte Umgebung an, in der die Studierenden durch kontinuierliche Selbstreflektion lernen ihre Interessen zu erkennen, um damit Wege und Zug\u00e4nge zu einer eigenen k\u00fcnstlerischen Praxis in kollaborativer Atmosph\u00e4re zu entwickeln. Folgerichtig findet in der Klasse ein vielf\u00e4ltiges und diversives Spektrum von k\u00fcnstlerischen Praxen Anwendung. Ausgangspunkte k\u00f6nnen sowohl autobiographische Ans\u00e4tze, Untersuchungen gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen und politischer Fragestellungen, wie auch die Bearbeitung \u00e4sthetischer, formaler, naturwissenschaftlicher und technologischer Ph\u00e4nomene sein.<\/h1>\n

Auch wenn die Wahl und der Einsatz der formalen Mittel grunds\u00e4tzlich offen ist, liegen zur Zeit die Pr\u00e4ferenzen auf Arbeiten, die analoges Material im physischen Raum mit der digitalen Welt verbinden, die bildhauerische Verfahren einbeziehen, performative Gesten und Video nutzen, den Umgang mit Bildmaterial in bild- und raumbezogenen Anwendungen experimentell erproben und diverse 2D\/3D-Druckverfahren nutzen.<\/h1>\n

Einzelgespr\u00e4che, Atelierbesuche, die Durchf\u00fchrung von thematischen Exkursionen, Realisierung von Ausstellungs- und Gruppenprojekten mit regionalen und internationalen Kooperationspartnern, sowie die Zusammenarbeit mit externen K\u00fcnstler*innen und Kurator*innen bilden neben regelm\u00e4\u00dfig stattfindenden Klassentreffen die Basis des Studiums in der Klasse f\u00fcr Installation und Raum.<\/h1>\n

An das Klassenprogramm angeschlossen war das DAAD-Projekt post documenta<\/a><\/strong> (von 2020 – 2022).<\/h1>\n

Statement to the class program<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The class was founded in 2004 as a Class for Media Art. In 2007 the class was renamed to “Class for Installation and Space. Long-term co-workers of the teaching stuff were Andreas Grahl<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(2006 – 2011) and Fabian Bechtle<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(2012 – 2017). From the winter semester 2017\/18 to the summer semester 2019, the Leipzig artist Klara<\/strong> Meinhardt<\/strong><\/a> accompanied various class projects as part of a teaching assignment. From 2019\/20 winter semester to summer semester 2021, Carsten Saeger<\/a><\/strong> was a freelance lecturer in the class. Elizabeth Gerdeman<\/a><\/strong> also teaches as part of the team in the class. Anna Raczynska<\/strong><\/a> started a teaching position in the winter semester 2021\/22. From April 2022 to March 2025 she was then working as an artistic assistant \/ artistic lecturer for installation and space in the class and in the Media Art Department at the HGB. Since the winter semester of 2025\/26, Leipzig-based artist and researcher Yana Zschiedrich<\/strong><\/a> supports the class with teaching assignments.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n

The mission of the class for installation and space is based on the increasing penetration of the digital world into all areas of human existence. Expanded Sculpture and Post-Internet are terms that describe the current frame of reference of the class sometimes directly and sometimes indirectly. Since the nineties, discourses of the new media in the field of the fine\u00a0arts have led to a convergence of different practices, media and formats. Today it is the advanced concept of material (New Materialism) that forms the basis of the broad spectrum of contemporary art.<\/h1>\n

Based on a relational understanding of art, the class program uses the terms installation and space to form a discourse framework that enables the discovery of hitherto unknown artistic forms. Installation is an arrangement of artifacts and bodies in space. Artifacts can be objects, sculptures, images, videos and much more – bodies can act as performers and as\u00a0audiance. As space is meant the physical, digital, social, and political space – certain intersections, but also the complete addition.<\/h1>\n

Something becomes perceptible as a work of art when the connection of artefacts and signs (representations) through an immaterial sphere of reflection and actions (relations) in space are completed. Relations means here that every work of art can be seen as a network of the most diverse material and immaterial factors, which in its reception can also assume fluid forms. The artistic output can therefore assume as much forms as investigations. To make art today means to acquire an individual way of dealing with the continuous flow of role changes between artistic practice on the one hand, perception, contemplation, reflection and communication on the other. Only when this has succeeded can an artistic position in the public sphere become effective. The prerequisite for this is the development of working methods, the filtering out of topics, the definition of the artistic material and the transformation of these factors into a new whole. The class offers a protected environment in which students learn to recognize their interests through continuous self-reflection in order to develop ways and approaches to their own artistic practice in a collaborative atmosphere. Consequently, the class uses a diverse and diverse spectrum of artistic practices. Starting points can be autobiographical approaches, investigations of social developments and political issues, as well as the treatment of aesthetic, formal, scientific and technological phenomena.<\/h1>\n

Even though the choice and use of formal means is fundamentally open, at present the preferences are for works that connect analogous material in the physical space with the digital world, which involve sculptural processes, use performative gestures and video, the handling of imagery Experimentally with image and space-related applications and use various 2D \/ 3D printing processes.<\/h1>\n

One-on-one discussions, studio visits, ‘learning through traveling’, the realization of exhibition and group projects with regional and international cooperation partners, as well as cooperations with external artists and curators and regular class meetings form a collaborational base of learning and development.<\/h1>\n

The DAAD project post documenta<\/a><\/strong> (from 2020 – 2022) was connected to the class program.<\/h1>\n
