Surveillance technology at the border from Juarez to America to Leipzig
Pascal Schiffers, 2023
This work derives from the uncanny reality of the highly
technologized US-Mexican border. In the arid expanse of the desert,
robot dogs are being deployed and tested by private American technology companies.
They are being trained to guard the border, but that's just one use case. Since these technologies are
available on the open market the displayed fiction of robot dogs, in the rural areas of Leipzig, is not far
away. It is a reflection on the porous boundaries between innovation, security, and the potential ubiquity
of surveillance technology worldwide.
