The NEUESTE LEIPZIGER INTERVENTION comprises seven contemporary positions by graduates of the HGB Leipzig, who deal quite differently with its important art academic tradition. The representatives of the "Leipzig School(s)", who have defended the reputation of the trade fair city as an epicenter of progressive art since the 1970s, have contributed to this tradition in particular: The special exhibition "Gegenentwürfe. East German Graphic Art. 1945-1990" devotes special attention to them.
NEUESTE LEIPZIGER INTERVENTION takes up striking thematic complexes of the graphic exhibition in order to bring the past and the present into visible, artistic contexts. In doing so, the contemporary works are directly or indirectly related to the older works. Consequently, the NEWEST LEIPZIGER*INNEN tie in, in terms of content or motif, to a historical visual world that is still familiar to them. Consciously or unconsciously, their discourse on the history of East German art is based on experiences of the pre- and post-reunification years that they gained as young adolescents.
In the intergenerational encounter, the aesthetic break is intended when painting and photography meet graphics, singular mixed and print techniques join the dominant hand drawing, or intense colorfulness shines between black and white nuances.
