Release Edition Intimate, 27.11.2014 Galerie Eigen + Art, Leipzig

The INTIMATE EDITION

is a continuation of the exhibition bearing the same name “Intimate” at Leipzig’s EIGEN + ART gallery in 2013, by the Intermedia class of the Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) in Leipzig.

The “Intimate” edition was presented at the EIGEN + ART gallery during a varied and performative evening including panel discussions. The contributions from the edition were once again transferred into a temporary format for the extraordinary evening programme: the HGB choir performed, a music cassette was playing in a parked car in front of the gallery, a palm was read, sound tracks resounded, and an actor was reading in front of a green screen.

The INTIMATE EDITION

In 2013 the participating artists translated the temporary white cube presentation of the exhibition into a form dependent on space and time. The edition in the form of a cassette which was developed during the winter semester 2013/2014, contains a range of miniaturised works. Each one of these works looks for the closeness of the viewer. Themes such as object reproduction and the commercialism of art in certain market sectors were also questioned. The range of individual objects spans from a music cassette
to a flipbook, card game and beyond.

Artists of the edition:
Maria Auerbach, Sven Bergelt, Gottfried Binder, Natalia Bougai, Alba D’Urbano, Till Exit, Valerio Figuccio, Nora Frohmann, Molina Ghosh,  Robson Missau Olbertz, Varinka Schreurs, Jakub Simcik, Johannes Stoll, Diego Vivanco, Kai-Hendrik Windeler

The evening was led by performer Angelika Waniek

Choreographers, dancers, video artists and musicians will set up a creative camp in the Gallery of Contemporary Art Leipzig. These “artists in residence” will create a piece, which is an installation, an sound sculpture and a dance performance at the same time. This will expand the traditional way of artistic creation in the studio or the rehearsal room at the opera. The title “Intershop” refers to the multi coloured shops with a wide range of various products in the former GDR. The performances also include very different forms of dance choreography with various themes and aestetic strategies. In the forthcoming “Intershop Camp” this idea will be reinforced by the collaboration between the visual artist oft he class intermedia and the dancers and musicians. The result of this collaboration will be a artistic form which lives between an open performance and an exhibition. This aspect between a momentary experience and a permanent artefact will be an important issue of this project.
