“Formal Economy is a performance in which using a loosely poetic form of stand up, I think among a group of images, telling stories about various forms of informal economy that exist within emotional lives. Through these stories, I will seek to redefine the concept of offer and demand, the history of world trade, and address Spinoza's ideas as a way of encouraging informal economies to become the real thing. In a frantic form of storytelling, I rely on global mistakes and forms of translation as different forms of positivity, allowing signifiers to slide into one another via similitude. Things that are at first scattered become connected with the mass of stories, spinning around an invisible gravitational center. This centrifuge of speech spins across the idea of a global economy, which is micro and informal, but ends up replacing the world’s language of formal economy.” Liv Schulman

Liv Schulman born in 1985, grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, now lives and works between Paris and Buenos Aires. She studied art practice and art writing at the ENSAPC de Paris-Cergy, the Goldmisths University of London, and did the Post-Diploma at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Lyon. Her work has been shown broadly around the world.
